Alongside this release, two new specialized models, gpt-5.1-codex and gpt-5.1-codex-mini, have also been launched in the API, specifically designed for handling long-running coding tasks. A significant improvement in API functionality is the extension of prompt caching duration, which now persists for up to 24 hours.
